Salary Information: $57,750 to $67,000 (DOE).
Starting salary while in the Police Academy is $55,000.

Area Information Location: Flagstaff, Arizona (Coconino County) Nearby Attractions: Grand Canyon, extensive outdoor activities (hiking, biking, running, skiing/snowboarding) Community: Vibrant downtown area, university town with a student population of 30,000 in a city of 72,000 Job Requirements Age: 21 by Academy Graduation Citizenship: Required Education: High School Diploma or GED Driver's License: Valid Language Skills: Ability to read and speak English Vision: Must be correctable to 20/20 College: Recommended, not required Academy Certification: Must pass AZPOST Academy upon hire unless already certified Experience: AZPOST certified or out-of-state equivalent encouraged to apply Hiring Process Submission of NAU Police Officer Application, NTN Frontline National Law Enforcement Test results, and NAUPD Background Questionnaire.
Applicants meeting minimum qualifications will participate in a physical fitness exam and an oral board interview, with a required passing score of 70%.
Top candidates will proceed to an Administrative Interview.
Successful candidates will meet informally with the Chief of Police.
Selected candidates will undergo a rigorous background investigation, including polygraph, psychological, and physical exams.
Non-certified applicants will attend an AZPOST-approved Police Academy, followed by department Field Training.
Working Conditions Exposure to potentially hazardous, uncontrollable, and life-threatening situations.
Work performed in all weather conditions.
Work may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
Duties require walking, running, lifting, and climbing to subdue hostile individuals.
Situations may rapidly shift from low stress to high stress.
Job Description Patrol assigned areas on foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle to control traffic, prevent crime, and arrest violators; issues warnings/citations for motor vehicle violations; enforces federal, state, and university laws.
Investigate crimes and accidents, conduct follow-up duties, interview suspects/witnesses, collect evidence, and file reports.
Respond to emergency alarms and calls, make quick decisions based on situational analysis.
Serve warrants, subpoenas, or other court processes as needed.
Respond to public service calls, including delivering emergency messages, assisting motorists, handling animal complaints, and managing domestic disturbances.
Investigate reports of missing persons, identify areas of potential crime or unsafe conditions, report, and take corrective actions.
Work with university residents/community and external public agencies to resolve concerns.
Conduct crime prevention/public safety presentations to citizen groups.
Train personnel on departmental policies, procedures, and activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of law enforcement practices and procedures.
Skill in analytical and objective observation and quick decision-making.
Proficiency in law enforcement equipment.
Physical ability to meet job requirements.
Skill in managing situations with firmness, courtesy, tact, and impartiality.
Accuracy in recording information.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Proficiency in computer operations and keyboarding.
