The Whakapapa whanau are a small but ambitious team, running year-round operations on the northern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. In winter, from June until October, this includes a world-class ski area. In summer, from December until April, this includes our summer sightseeing operation, heroing our iconic Sky Waka gondola. Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of manuhiri (guests) to Whakapapa, many with life-long connections to the maunga (mountain) and surrounding region, some even third or fourth generation.
Mo te tunga | About the role The Plumber role at Whakapapa is responsible for maintaining the ski area facilities to a high standard, and in accordance with current plumbing legislation and best practise, in order to achieve a high level of finish, consistent availability of facilities, guest comfort, sustainability and safety.
Ensure drinking water systems are maintained to relevant standards, including Potable water testing and ready for operation. Liaise with the Maintenance Manager regarding planning, costing and timing to set achievable, mutually agreed upon goals within budgetary requirements. Assist Carpenter with maintenance and building tasks. Report any defects or repairs to buildings, plumbing systems, heavy plant or equipment that may jeopardise the safety of staff/guests or are inherently detrimental to business. Nga pukenga me nga wheako ou | Your skills and experience Hold a Certificate in Plumbing Thorough knowledge of guest service principles. Skilled in developing and maintaining guest relationships. Ability to apply appropriate interpersonal styles within a team. Ability to share technical information with other technical or non-technical people in a manner that is quickly understandable. Commitment to a strong guest service ethic. Punctual and reliable. High energy levels. A quick response to requests, ideas and suggestions in a non-defensive way. A tolerance for uncertain market and weather conditions. Flexible approach to work schedules, guest needs and the strategic direction of the organisation. ***On October 27, 2023, Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Limited was put into Receivership with Brendon Gibson and Neale Jackson appointed as Receivers. The receivers continue trading the Company and are working on transferring the ownership of the Whakapapa and Turoa ski areas to new operators. On 18 December, DOC announced public notification of Pure Turoa Limited's concession application to operate Turoa ski area. The Receivers are continuing to work on the sale of Whakapapa.
