Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand, leads the day-to-day running of our health system across New Zealand, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and national levels. It weaves the functions of the 20 former District Health Boards into its regional divisions and district offices, ensuring continuity of services in the health system.
The Team
The Plastic and Reconstructive Department at Christchurch Hospital provides a complete range of secondary and tertiary services for paediatric and adult patients, both acute and elective for the Canterbury and West Coast regions. Acute hand call is shared with the Department of Orthopaedics.
The Department is one of three regional burn units and is the Regional Burn Unit for the South Island.
We are an accredited training centre for the Royal Australian College of Surgeons for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and have a complement of both training and non-training registrars within our service.
Mo te tunga | About the role
We are seeking a full-time Specialist Medical Officer (SMO) to join our Plastic Surgery team. This position is available as either a fixed-term or permanent role, offering flexibility to suit the right candidate. Below are the immediate and future needs for the position:
Position 1: February 2025 – July 2025
The successful candidate will join us on a fixed-term contract from February 2025 to July 2025.
Position 2: Permanent Role or Fixed Term from July 2025
From July 2025 onwards, we are seeking a permanent or fixed term SMO to fill the role.
