Whakatane District Council is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead a key part of our Three Waters Consent Replacement Programme. This vital role involves managing the replacement of specific three waters resource consents, including those related to wastewater systems for Whakatane and Edgecumbe, which are set to expire on 1 October 2026. You will play a crucial role in shaping a new approach to project management, working collaboratively with mana whenua and other key stakeholders to strategically think about wastewater management in the district. Your leadership will be essential in designing and implementing a process that successfully secures new resource consents in collaboration with mana whenua and other stakeholders. This is a 3-year fixed term or contract role with a salary range of $106,500 - $125,000. Join us in ensuring the sustainable management of our wastewater, and municipal water supply systems. Ko wai koe | About you You will be a project management expert with a proven track record of delivering projects in compliance with the Resource Management Act and other statutory requirements. Your experience and flair in co-design approaches with iwi/hapu, key partners, and stakeholders, combined with your ability to build strong relationships, will be essential as we think strategically about wastewater management in the district and secure the necessary consent. Ideally you'll have: A Bachelor of Engineering - Civil or equivalent through experience. At least five years of project management experience in regulatory processes, preferably in three waters infrastructure consenting. Strong legislative knowledge of the Resource Management Act (RMA) and other relevant legislation Demonstratable cultural competency with the ability to work effectively with diverse communities and facilitate co-design approaches with iwi/hapu. Excellent relationship management skills. Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and a focus on continuous improvement. Exceptional communication, presentation and writing skills. Strong technical proficiency in a range of software programmes. Previous experience in Local Government and an understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and its implications for Council, will stand you in good stead for this role.
