Pharmacology and Therapeutics Advisory Committee Chair & Member Do you want to help Pharmac - Te Pataka Whaioranga decide which new medicines and devices are funded in New Zealand?
Join the PTAC whanau and share your clinical experience and expertise to make a difference to health outcomes for all New Zealanders.
We are looking for new members to join the Pharmacology and Therapeutics Advisory Committee (PTAC) in 2025.
Applications are welcome for the roles of PTAC Chair and up to three PTAC members.
PTAC is a statutory advisory committee to Pharmac - Te Pataka Whaioranga.
It is made up of vocationally registered health practitioners with expertise in critical appraisal.
The Committee provides objective clinical advice and recommendations to help Pharmac make funding decisions for medicines and medical devices to get the best health outcomes for all New Zealanders.
PTAC usually meets four times a year, over one or two days in Wellington and/or through videoconferencing.
Members are expected to spend around 30 - 40 hours preparing for each meeting in the month prior to the meeting.
Members are remunerated for their time and are appointed for three-year terms.
As a pro-equity organisation, Pharmac is committed to improving health outcomes for all New Zealanders, including those with the highest needs (Maori, Pacific peoples, disabled people, women, and people living rurally).
Ko wai koe | About you We are seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced health practitioners who are in active clinical practice.
Ideal candidates may also bring primary care or cancer care perspectives and/or have sound understanding and experience in te Ao Maori and matauranga Maori.
Candidates should have: excellent critical appraisal skills a good general knowledge of pharmaceuticals a good understanding of evidence-based medicine in clinical practice a strong understanding of health equity (Pharmac Equity policy) and the health needs of Maori, Pacific peoples, disabled peoples including tangata whaikaha Maori, and other populations identified by the Government Policy Statement on Health 2024-2027 to have high health needs at least five years' experience in their vocational field the ability to balance individual and population health perspectives For the role of PTAC Chair, prior experience on PTAC or Pharmac Specialist Advisory Committees is desirable.
