ABOUT THE ROLE The Medical Department at Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti is open for applications for PGY3+ RMOs starting 30 January 2024 for 6 months or 1 year.
We are accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for Basic and Advanced Trainees.
Our service includes resident medical officers (RMOs) working closely with senior medical officers (SMOs) as well as trainee interns to provide efficient and effective care for the people of Tairawhiti.
Gisborne Hospital is a 115 bed acute care hospital which serves a wide geographical area extending up the East Cape of New Zealand, creating enormous scope and variety in the work available to an enthusiastic trainee.
Providing healthcare to a population of 50,000, Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti is well supported locally by comprehensive surgical services and has a full range of diagnostic facilities on site including a new MRI scanner and CT scanner.
As an RMO in the medical department, you will have the opportunity to develop skills in general medicine as part of our team.
The department consists of Physicians in General Medicine with sub-specialty interests as well as specialist nurses and visiting sub-specialists.
As part of your inpatient duties, you will participate in medical admissions and management with an unselected medical take, giving you exposure to a wide range of medical presentations and procedures.
There are also a number of educational opportunities including weekly journal club, protected teaching and clinical skills sessions.
