Mo te turanga | About the role

Manage, prepare, and process payroll for approximately 650 staff each fortnight in line with legislation.

This role is sole responsibility; and other areas of work include:

Preparation and processing of payroll for employees, elected members, summer students, and casuals.

Setting up new employee starters (including elected members) and calculating leavers' payments for comparison with the payroll system.

Responding to all payroll queries; providing accurate and timely advice to employees and managers.

Supporting the People & Capability team.

Liaising with IRD, ACC, and other relevant stakeholders.

Able to deliver with a high level of time pressure.

Possesses strong skills in data processing and Microsoft office.

Demonstrates success at building relationships and resolving issues with internal and external stakeholders.

Willing to learn and use new ways of working and continuously improve.

Enjoys finding solutions to problems.

Has excellent communication skills – written and verbal.

Mo nga pukenga | Qualifications and experience

We are looking for someone with:

At least 7 – 8 years' experience in a senior or sole charge capacity running a payroll in a similar sized organisation.

A Bachelors degree in a payroll related discipline; such as Business Management, HR, or Finance. OR equivalent experience

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will work in the Finance and Business Services Directorate, which supports the Waikato Regional Council's mission through the provision of a broad range of professional services.

The team is available to provide backup support for payroll when required.
