Ko tenei turanga mahi | About this role We have a new opportunity in our Parks team for a Parks Community Connector. This role focuses on strengthening partnerships with volunteers and community groups as we expand our volunteer workforce.
You will support and assist established groups to work safely and effectively, while also enabling new groups to thrive.
Your efforts will ensure these individuals and groups are well-supported to achieve a variety of agreed outcomes, contributing to the excellence of parks and reserves across Nelson City.
This role is all about connecting with people and making a positive impact in our community.
You'll manage volunteers and community group contracts, oversee plantings, pest control (both weed and animal), and edible plant management.
Health and safety oversight, reporting, and coordinating service requests are also key aspects of this role.
Every day will bring new challenges and opportunities, from contributing to contract documentation to liaising with community groups.

Collaboration is at the heart of this role.
You'll build strong relationships with community groups, leveraging your horticulture or conservation background to advocate for best practices across our parks and reserves network.

Ko nga pumanawa ou| About you A people-person who is passionate about harnessing the enthusiasm of our community volunteers to enhance Whakatu's natural/green spaces.
Excellent communication and relationship management skills, you are a dynamic activator who loves to meet new people and take on new challenges.
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate confidently and effectively in a range of public forums Can confidently disseminate biodiversity and conservation information to a wide audience Experience in amenity horticulture, horticulture or conservation.
Experience in project management; planning, delivery and monitoring outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including community groups, volunteers, contractors and other Council staff to deliver planned work.
Demonstrated understanding of the implications of Te Tiriti o Waitangi on the work programme and ability to engage and consult with iwi and tangata whenua to achieve shared goals Understands the function of local government, in particular Unitary Authorities, and the relationships with other Government agencies, groups and organisations Have an understanding of where to find local and national government legislation that may affect this role Good general computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and GIS applications Strong personal prioritisation and time management skills Demonstrate and understanding or a willingness to understand and show commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti O Waitangi.
