You'll collaborate closely with your peers to prioritise patient care across the paediatric service, delivering focused and impactful therapy sessions that make a real difference to the lives of tamariki (children) and make an impact in one of New Zealand's largest industries.
About the RoleThis position is a parental leave cover and is fixed term for 12 months.
This would be perfect for a flexible and innovative Speech Language Therapist with 2-3+ years working in the paediatric Space.
As part of the team you would be providing assessment and intervention on a range communication and swallowing difficulties supporting tamariki (children) and their whanau (family and or extended family).
Your caseload will involve working with infants and children with a variety of conditions.
You will work regularly with a highly skilled MDT team at the Waikato Hospital, Waikato Child Development Centre and other paediatric specialities to deliver a specialist diagnostic assessment and intervention service to tamariki (children) from birth to 15 years of age.
Mo tatou Ratonga | About our ServiceThe speech language therapy team work in a variety of areas including inpatient medical and surgical wards, critical care (NICU/ICU), outpatient clinics, rural hospitals, , child development centre and the cleft lip and palate clinic.
There may be opportunities to gain clinical experiences across these areas if interested.
Waikato DHB provides tertiary health care to Te Manawa Taki (Midlands) Region.
Clinical specialties include oncology, surgical services, paediatrics, obstetrics, emergency and critical care, radiology and anaesthetics.
Our Speech Language Therapy team works closely with our Allied, Medical and Nursing colleagues across the hospitalYou will work within a close team that provide speech language therapy services to, infants, children and whanau across the Waikato area.
The speech language therapy team work in a variety of areas including: inpatient medical and surgical wards, ICU, NICU, outpatient clinics, home visits, rural hospitals and child Mou | About youRequired skills & experience you will need to be consider for this role: Have NZSTA membership or at least be eligible for NZSTA membershipHave a Bachelors or Masters degree in Speech Language Therapy from an NZSTA-accredited programme; or have had your qualifications approved by the NZSTAHave an openness to working within a multi-disciplinary team working towards whanau focused goalsHave a current valid full New Zealand drivers licenceExcellent verbal and written communication skillsThe ability to work within a team to achieve client focused goalsAbility to provide a culturally safe service with Te Tiriti in the forefront of your practice and a focus on evidence based practiceExceptional communication skills across the lifespan Ideally you will also have: Experience working with children with a range of communication needsExperience working with children with swallowing/feeding difficultiesHave experience performing and interpreting videofluoroscopy swallowing studies, ideally in paediatricsHave excellent knowledge of childhood development Click to view the position description.How to ApplyPlease click 'Apply online' or apply via our Waikato Careers Website by clicking All applications must be submitted through our online careers portal before 11:59pm on 10 January 2025.
