The Role

The role heads up the Packaging department and will be a key decision maker, supporting the NPD Director. The role will entail effective development of new packaging solutions and ongoing packaging projects. The position requires driving sustainability initiatives and packaging design, conducting trials, collecting data for various projects and helping in critical decision-making for the Packaging Development process. The role involves interaction with cross-functional teams, suppliers and other consultants. Keeping the focus on newer packaging formats through periodic
benchmarking of competition or other business categories, which can be applied to new product portfoliosInteract with Marketing, manufacturing, 3P, Product development and
quality teams for Artwork development, prototype making, planning trials and supplier visits. Packaging design approvals and Artwork clearancesSupport the R&D function in driving various packaging productivity and sustainability (APCO-related, etc.) projects and creating appropriate value structures meeting the function needs of the product/ formulationsIs responsible for making Key-line drawings, collating data by conducting shelf life and transit trials, preparing specifications, packaging prototypes for testing.Ensure changes or new packaging implementation is risk assessed and managed in compliance with site Quality and Safety requirementsAssist Operations with packaging-related issue resolution in a timely
fashionInterface between Suppliers, Procurement and Operations to effect timely resolution of the issuesCoordinating with various cross-functional teams in generating packaging elements of the Bill of materials, providing data and specifications, artwork approvals, proofing of new graphic designs, etc.Skills & ExperienceFundamentals of packaging – material identification and testing of
various Paper and Plastic materialsTechnical skills that support innovations in the specific area – material
selection and barrier properties, accelerated shelf-life evaluation
techniquesBasic understanding of machine material interface, efficiencies, and
productivity factors throughout the manufacturing and supply-chain
processUnderstanding of collation and palletisation
techniquesBasic Knowledge of CAD and other design softwareUnderstanding of packaging regulations and influences (APCO)Good communication skills (articulative), effective teamwork,
creativity, and willingness to explore newer approaches. Should be
comfortable with data collation and interpretation techniques and have
a drive for InnovationsHigh-level communication skills, both written and verbal, including
the ability to write technical reportsExperience of about 5 -7+ years in packaging development in the
Food, Consumer goods or Packaging Conversion industry.
Experience within the baking industry is also valuable and will be
