Hillmorton High School is a diverse urban coeducational school situated in the South-West of Christchurch. The school is a fast-growing Y7–13 school with dedicated middle and senior schools. We have a roll of around 1150 and with further building works underway, the roll is expected to increase to 1350 in the next few years. We provide students with a caring and supportive environment to help them achieve academic excellence, leadership skills, and a love of learning.
The Role We are seeking an Outdoor Education Support Assistant to join our outdoor education team. This role requires a self-motivated individual who is relational with young people, works well as part of a team, and is efficient in using their own initiative.
This is a permanent, part-time position. The hours of work are 15 hours per week (days & times to be negotiated), term time only. Remuneration is at Grade 2, Step 1 of the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement.
Reporting to the Head of Outdoor Education, your key role is to support the lead Outdoor Education teachers by:
Preparing essential equipment for our senior practical lessons
Providing support in practical lessons
Tracking, maintaining, and enhancing equipment systems (tents, mountain bikes, tramping equipment, and sea kayak kit).
Providing support for our growing EOTC and school camps across the school where suitable.
Comfortable working within a school environment, the successful applicant will have experience and passion for working with youth in the outdoor sector.
Qualifications/Experience: Knowledge and practical skills in working with outdoor equipment is preferred; please state qualifications and experience.
A full and clean drivers' licence with experience driving vans and trailers is essential.
A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and an understanding and ability to be culturally responsive is essential.
A successful police check is a condition of employment. The successful applicant must be a NZ resident or hold a valid working visa.
