Whakatane High School is a co-educational school with approximately 1,250 students in the beautiful Eastern Bay of Plenty. The school is proud of its history and success and is well respected within the community.
Applications are invited for a part-time (25 hours per week), fixed-term position of ORS specialist teacher. The position commences 31 January 2025 and ends 30 January 2026.
The successful applicant will have a Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Complex Educational Needs to provide the skills and expertise to work with a student with special education needs, or be prepared to undertake professional development in relevant special education topics such as adapting teaching and learning strategies within The New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa .
The specialist teacher will provide a range of specialist teaching and support activities that will include:
Working alongside classroom teachers, school learning support staff and other practitioners.
Assessing the student's learning needs, planning and preparing appropriate learning programmes for the student.
Monitoring the student's progress and achievement and planning for next learning steps.
Modeling effective teaching strategies and practices for teachers and teachers' aides.
Assisting with differentiating class and school curriculum content within the The New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa .
Adapting and preparing learning materials and resources appropriate for a student's needs.
Teaching the student within the class or small group settings.
Integrating specialist services/therapy interventions into their everyday class and school programmes.
Contributing to the Individual Education Plan (IEP) planning and implementation process.
