The ORL-HNS department, based at the Manukau Super Clinic & Surgery Centre in South Auckland, provides outpatient, day stay surgery, and inpatient services to the population of Counties Manukau. Our department has been instrumental in expanding and developing services.
At present, the department has 10 consultants, a fellow, one MOSS, three registrars, two SHOs, and an experienced team of nursing and allied health staff. The department is managed by an experienced service manager. The ORL service falls under the surgical directorate of Counties Manukau District.
A friendly and supportive environment exists within our department with a large emphasis placed on providing excellent teaching, research, and training opportunities. The clinical setting includes a large number of patients with general ORL-HNS conditions, middle ear diseases, and rhino-sinusitis. Head and Neck surgery is largely focused on benign and malignant diseases, thyroid surgery, and salivary gland diseases. The hospital is proud to be a centre of excellence for sialendoscopy and was pioneering in setting up this service in New Zealand.
Malignant Head and Neck patient care is shared within the wider umbrella of Auckland City hospital Head and Neck Tertiary services.
There is a strong audiology department associated, and we have an active SLT section.
