Orchestra Manager

Full-time – permanent: commencing January 2025
We are looking for an experienced manager to take over the position of Orchestra Manager at Auckland Philharmonia, New Zealand's professional city-based orchestra.
The Orchestra Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless operation of the orchestra in all Auckland Philharmonia events throughout the year.
The role works closely alongside the Director of Operations, the Director of Artistic Planning, Auckland Philharmonia Music Director, Auckland Philharmonia musicians, and many Auckland Philharmonia staff members. This role is an integral part of running the orchestra to ensure there are musicians on stage each week.
To be successful in this role you will need to have a strong knowledge and experience in the running of an orchestra, be a strong communicator, and have advanced administrative skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills. You will also need to have the ability to work well both autonomously and within a team. The ability to remain level-headed under pressure and a passion for your work is essential.
Essential
Highly developed communication (both written and verbal), able to exercise tact and discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to manage sensitive personalities and manage conflict.
Excellent administrative skills; demonstrated level ability in planning, attention to detail, and accuracy. Ability to meet deadlines essential.
Experience in rehearsal and performance management.
Knowledge of orchestral music including the ability to read orchestral scores, and a thorough knowledge of orchestral instruments. Tertiary qualification in music highly desirable.
High level of computer literacy, good knowledge of orchestral scheduling software, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good understanding of budgeting, financial, personnel, and library procedures.
Desirable
Good knowledge of orchestral working conditions including Auckland Philharmonia musicians P&P and staging and concert presentation and a knowledge of the Musicians Terms of Employment.
Experience in working with Artistic personnel.
