Are you an Ophthalmologist looking for a new opportunity? Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua MidCentral are looking for someone to join our service providing specialist secondary care services to the region. This fulltime (1FTE) position would be suitable for an experienced or a newly qualified specialist. The successful applicant will be a comprehensive ophthalmologist with a sub speciality interest. We are seeking a vitreo-retinal specialist, with cataract experience although other subspecialty interests may be considered. The role along with local and sub-regional ophthalmic service provision will include supervision of registrars and teaching of University of Otago Medical School Trainee Interns.
The Senior Medical Officer (SMO) team currently comprises four experienced locally based consultant Ophthalmologists and one visiting consultant Ophthalmologist.
The wider eye service includes two registrars (one RANZCO vocational trainee), ophthalmic clinic nurses (incl. extended practice roles), an orthoptist, ophthalmic technicians, and visiting optometrists. The service provides specialist outpatient and inpatient ophthalmology services, and primary health care support. MidCentral provides a regional cancer treatment service to a wider catchment across the lower North Island.
Technologically the service is well resourced with OCT, Argon retinal laser, YAG laser, Selective Laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), cyclodiode laser, Centurion phacoemulsification and DORC posterior vitrectomy equipment and Pentacam.

Applicants must be eligible for vocational registration in Ophthalmology with the Medical Council of New Zealand as well as having demonstrated clinical, management, and teaching skills and the ability to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team.
