Are you passionate about working in the outdoors? Do you have the influencing skills to lead teams? Are you looking for a change in career? This could be the ideal opportunity for you!
Timberlands Ltd is a world leading Forestry Management Company based in Rotorua, New Zealand. Our nursery staff cut, set, and dispatch 7 million trees per season to the forest. We are looking for a Nursery Supervisor to join our team and have influence on our large-scale nursery operations.
About the role:
Generally based at our Rerewhakaaitu Nursery (and occasionally at Te Ngae, Rotorua), this role is required to support and provide supervision of contract staff to ensure a supply of robust, healthy, high performing seedling/cuttings to the forest. For approximately half of the year, you will be organising, monitoring, and leading field staff collecting and setting cuttings. For the other half of the year, your main focus will be on the maintenance of our hedges motherstock, in preparation for the following season's cutting production. There will also be a requirement to assist with general nursery duties like weeding the crop, general housekeeping, cleaning, and repairing equipment.
Key tasks within this role include:
Provide leadership and supervision to contract staff to ensure the workforce is working efficiently and is well managed.
Ensure all nursery operations are managed both economically and in line with approved nursery regimes. This includes lifting of tree stocks, harvesting and setting cuttings, planting and maintaining motherplants, and various other nursery operations.
Ensure all nursery operations you oversee are compliant with company best practice and liaise with your line leader to maintain and improve these where appropriate.
You will need to be comfortable using technology and record-keeping systems.
Driving passenger vehicles and operating company machinery such as forklifts when required.
To be successful in this role you will have previous experience providing frontline supervision and have the ability to manage and build on relationships. As this is largely an outdoor role, you will be physically fit and able to take all the elements the outdoors has to offer! If you have the right attitude, a desire to learn, and a commitment to the role, then you are the person we are looking for.
You will need to be able to commit to early starts and potentially long days during our main season (May – October). This will be balanced out with shorter days taking your time in lieu in the off season and time off available over the Christmas period. Applicants should have current eligibility to work in New Zealand and already be residing here.
