ABOUT THE ROLE Reporting into the National Health, Safety, and Environmental Manager, this position works alongside and supports senior and frontline operations leaders to deliver effective H&S programs across the business. Looking after our northern port locations from Tauranga to Nelson, the role is pivotal in ensuring that all Health & Safety activities are carried out in a manner that complies with internal and external standards and regulations. This role will also be to build relationships with our operational teams and port locations and to be a trusted advisor to each port location. The advisor will be expected to be an onsite voice for H&S matters and engagement with a regular presence required at all port locations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Monitor and manage workplace H&S program (Vault), seeking improvement and hazard elimination Manage day-to-day operations and needs for H&S Complete regular on-site audits across and ensure all action items are closed out within specified time Educate managers and staff on all Safety matters to promote best practice and statutory and legal compliance Encourage best H&S practices by building relationships and implementing programs to promote positive behaviour Include staff members across the business in program development. Assist Operational Managers with their risk assessments and risk management of their operations Manage incidents and accidents by leading investigations, follow-up, and return to work programs Organise and enhance systems utilising developed technologies and ensure all H&S aspects are considered in company decisions Build strong relationships with Managers and operational staff to ensure widespread support for Home safe initiatives and process compliance IDEAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND ATTRIBUTES Ideally at least 3-5 years operational Health & Safety experience Strong Project Management and interpersonal skills are essential Strong computer skills with literacy in Word for Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Communication – professional succinct communication skills (in person and in written form) including reporting Auditing skills and experience Leadership skills, underpinned by a genuine interest in people Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Strong motivation, team building, and influencing skills Excellent presentation skills Ability to work at all levels Full clean driving license BENEFITS Southern Cross Healthcare for you and your family Career advancement and development opportunities Match up to 7% superannuation A company vehicle with full reasonable personal use PLEASE NOTE: All successful candidates must under-go and pass a pre-employment medical and D&A assessment, and must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
