This involves speaking to a significant audience on an important subject for readers and listeners; public safety and the policing of it.In this role your responsibilities will include:Provide RNZ with comprehensive, up-to-date, accurate and in-depth coverage of crime stories across all our platforms, including digital, radio programmes and news bulletins.Break and cover crime stories that are in the public interest.Work and liaise closely with other RNZ teams and journalists.Give the news story meaning, by providing context and insight.Understand the audience needs and interests about law and order issues, and consider how a public media organisation can best meet them.Foster and maintain a widespread network of contacts, including experts best suited to speak on a story.To be considered for this role you will need:A Tertiary level Journalism Qualification.Proven experience in Journalism and in-depth knowledge or experience relating to crime and justice reporting.Effective working knowledge of the media landscape including competitors, industry trends and audience in relation to crime and justice reporting.Experience and ability in addressing audience needs.The ability to work across a range of multimedia platforms.Nga Hua: What we offerA friendly, welcoming and inclusive team/organisation.Development and regular training opportunities for our people.Will match an employee's KiwiSaver contribution up to 4%.Additional leave provisions for some roles and the option to buy extra leave.Comprehensive parental leave over and above standard legislation.Company discounts and benefits including discounted Southern Cross health insurance, car rental services and free flu shots.RNZ supports work/life balance for our people including working from home initiatives where possible.Comprehensive wellbeing support including access to a confidential support, guidance and counselling service.Te Ahurea – Our CultureAt RNZ we are committed to fostering an inclusive and constructive culture.
