The opportunity: Jenny Marcroft MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary has delegated responsibility in the Media and Communication and Oceans and Fisheries portfolios and is seeking an experienced Ministerial Advisor to join her team.
In this high impact role, you will be an integral part of a small but tight-knit and highly performing team, who support the Under Secretary as part of the 54th Parliament.
It is unique and rewarding work, in a genuinely fast-paced environment.
This is an events-based position based on the present parliamentary term.
What can I expect?
As a Ministerial Advisor, you will join a trusted team responsible for supporting the Under Secretary across her delegations.
You will also be responsible for providing general and political advice to the Under Secretary across her portfolio delegations and ministerial responsibilities, and will develop effective relationships with Caucus, coalition and support parties to facilitate progress of policy and legislation.
This is an events-based position based on a 3-year parliamentary term.
What skills or experience would I need to be successful?
An excellent understanding of government and public service protocols and processes, which leads to effective decision making.
Experience relevant to the Under Secretary's portfolios would be advantageous.
Exceptional time management skills and the ability to work independently while staying connected to and contributing to team results.
A well-developed risk radar - you will be accustomed to anticipating and mitigating risk, operating on a "no surprises" basis, keeping the Under Secretary and wider team informed of issues that impact the workings of government.
Well-developed communication skills and political nous, enabling you to quickly build effective working relationships within the Under Secretary's team, with your peers and with key internal and external stakeholders.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills along with attention to detail are essential.
Previous experience working in a ministerial office or government department is highly desirable.
