We aspire to create a working environment that is inclusive and meets the aspirations of mana whenua ensuring equity for Maori and increasing access for all.Mo te turaka mahi | About the roleOur Bachelor of Midwifery programme enables akonga (learners) to remain at home with their whanau and undertake the majority of their study in their own geographical area through a blended delivery model of education.
Akonga are grouped into 'satellites' throughout the lower North Island/Te Ika-a-Maui and lower South Island/Te Waipounamu where we employ local midwives as Kaiako with responsibility for student support, teaching, assessment, liaison with local midwives and maternity services, and as members of the wider midwifery teaching team.This position is for a part-time 0.4 FTE Kaiako role based in our Whanganui satellite, to teach on our Bachelor of Midwifery programme.As a Kaiako/Lecturer you will be responsible for coordination of akonga learning and practice in the region.
You would meet with a small hui akonga (tutorial group) of Year 1 and Year 2 akonga for three-four hours most weeks.
During hui akonga, learners debrief their practice experiences, practice skills, and receive support and pastoral care.
Learner assessment is part of this role.There is also an expectation of some teaching during Wananga ('Intensive' block courses) which are delivered in Porirua, Wellington (and Dunedin) and attendance at some staff meetings.
While hui akonga, wananga, orientation and meetings are timetabled, other work can be managed flexibly.Ko wai koe | About youYou will hold a current Annual Practising Certificate with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand and have extensive midwifery practice experience.
A postgraduate qualification would be an advantage, as would teaching experience, computer literacy, and familiarity/experience with E-learning.
