Midwife Specialist - Women's Assessment Unit at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Te Toka Tumai Auckland, AucklandClinical Midwife Specialists for the acute maternity service Permanent full time and part time rolesTe whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity We are seeking experienced midwives to provide senior clinical midwifery support for kaimahi at Te Toka Tumai Auckland. This role will also support our commitment to equity by enabling and improving access to care within our service. You will be comfortable and knowledgeable about health equity and our commitment to upholding this within the service and our population. As a midwife specialist, you will understand the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and how it is woven into midwifery practice.
As a Clinical Midwife Specialist, you will be a highly competent and confident midwife with a commitment to keeping birth normal and be experienced managing women experiencing pregnancy complexities. You will provide triage and prioritisation services for hapu whanau accessing WAU and plan their placement within our service. You will be a specialist midwife in labour and birth care, being able to support and grow our midwives in all levels of midwifery care.
The expectation of this role is to enable you to work at the top of the midwifery scope, with full autonomy consulting with other members of the team as and when required.
Our service: Women's Assessment Unit (WAU) WAU is a 16 bed unit providing care for whanau accessing acute maternity and gynaecology services at Te Toka Tumai Auckland hospital, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. WAU is similar to a Women's Health emergency department.
Our services include maternity assessments, both antepartum and postpartum up to six weeks, induction of labour, pregnant and non-pregnant acute gynaecological conditions, and a perinatal loss service for women 20 weeks and over who experience a fetal death in utero or require a termination of pregnancy for medical indications or fetal abnormality.
Our team includes Clinical Charge Midwives, Midwives, Gynaecology Nurses, Health Care Assistants and Ward Clerks. The team liaises closely with the multidisciplinary team, including our medical teams, community LMC midwives and private obstetricians with access to our facility.

SGA/FGR pathwayPPROM / PETECVBlood transfusionsUSS reviews.Labour and Birthing Suite: LBS is a 14 bed unit with 2 high risk bed spaces. We care for whanau from across the Auckland region and due to our hospital being a regional referral centre, we have whanau coming from across the motu and the Pacific. We provide maternity care from primary through to quaternary.
You must be a registered midwife, ideally with 5 years of post-registration practice, have a great understanding of the NZ maternity system, and hold a post-graduate qualification or be working towards one.
The successful candidates will role model excellent midwifery practice and work within the NZCOM standards of practice, with a commitment to incorporating the principles of Turanga Kaupapa within your practice.
