About the Role As the Midwife Manager of the Nelson Maternity Unit, you will provide clinical expertise, leadership, and management of the maternity service.
In this role, you will promote a safe, evidence-based practice environment that supports service requirements and meets the needs of women, babies, and their families and whanau in the Nelson/Tasman region.
A key focus of the role will be ensuring that the maternity service is provided in accordance with service specifications, the national maternity standards, and the maternity quality and safety programme.
The service priorities will reflect the Nelson Marlborough Health (NMH) Annual Plan objectives for maternity services.
The Midwife Manager will report to the Associate Director of Midwifery/Operations Manager and be professionally responsible to the Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Nelson Marlborough Health.
About the Team/Location The Nelson Maternity Unit is a secondary level maternity service with a midwifery workforce covering day assessment unit, antenatal inpatient, labour and birth, and postnatal inpatient care.
The maternity unit is located in Nelson Hospital and works closely with the local primary maternity units, community midwifery team, and the LMC midwives in the region.
About You Competency with te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Matauranga Maori and Kaupapa Maori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.You will demonstrate sound professional judgement, strong leadership skills, with a clear commitment to high-quality care, improving health outcomes for Maori, and development of the service.Supporting and leading initiatives to increase workforce diversity and sustainability will be key.You will be experienced in working with LMC midwives with access agreements.You will be able to demonstrate relevant experience and knowledge of midwifery practice, midwifery professional frameworks, relevant legislation, resource management including budgeting, equipment, and staff management.
Support will be provided where necessary.It is expected that you will have significant midwifery experience, a current APC with no conditions, and evidence of postgraduate qualifications.
