Health NZ Te Whatu Ora Waikato Midwifery Graduate Programme offers you the opportunity to establish and grow your midwifery career in a highly professional and culturally diverse team and community.
Purpose:
Our Midwifery Graduate Programme aims to support newly registered midwives as they transition to practice and become confident midwives.
How:
We believe that a strong support team is essential to the success of new graduate midwives. Our midwifery preceptors, Midwife Clinical Coaches and Midwifery Educators will work alongside you to offer guidance and support as you develop and acquire new skills and knowledge. The Waikato Midwifery Graduate Programme also offers additional education days specifically facilitated for Graduate Midwives.

Build Your Own! We offer a fifteen-month flexible programme with three structured placements across the full scope of midwifery practice:

All new midwifery graduates
Your choice of:


Delivery Suite - Five months
Postnatal - Three months
Women's Assessment Unit
Day Assessment Unit & Women's Clinic
Antenatal and Induction of Labour - Three months
Whanau Mai Team
Rural Primary Birthing

Five months in: Delivery Suite

Three months in E1 Maternity Ward (antenatal and Induction postnatal)
Three Months in E2 Maternity Ward (postnatal)
Four months either in one of the three Primary Birthing Units, an extra high acuity placement in WAU, the Whanau Mai Team or day assessment unit and women's clinic
The rotation structure and order are flexible and specific to the individual midwifery graduate

Mou | About you

NZ Completed Undergraduate Degree in Midwifery
Completed Relevant Overseas Qualification in Midwifery and have met the requirements of the Midwifery Council of New Zealand
Eligible to work in New Zealand

For your application we require:

A cover letter
Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Two Referees: telephone and email contact details. Either one being the LMC of your last continuity placement and the other from your tertiary institute or school of midwifery or one being the LMC of your last continuity placement and the other from a previous employer or an employed midwife familiar with your practice.
