Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand, leads the day-to-day running of our health system across New Zealand, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and national levels. It weaves the functions of the 20 former District Health Boards into its regional divisions and district offices, ensuring continuity of services in the health system.

The Team Canterbury Regional Cancer and Haematology Service (CRCHS) provides medical oncology services to a regional population of approximately 600,000. CRCHS currently employs 11 medical oncologists, 11 radiation oncologists, six haematologists and four palliative care physicians. We are a collaborative unit and work closely with a highly skilled team of nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists and allied health professionals from other medical disciplines.
CRCHS has accreditation for medical oncology training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. In addition to accredited medical oncology registrar training posts, we have trainees in radiation oncology, haematology and palliative care.
Systemic anti-cancer therapies are supervised by teams of medical oncologists enabled by a team of CNS. SACT infusions are delivered in our 11-chair chemotherapy day ward and lower risk infusions are delivered at our secondary site at Burwood hospital. Inpatient care is provided by a RMO team lead by the Medical Oncologists on call on a weekly basis.
Mo te tunga | About the role We are looking for a Consultant Medical Oncologist to join our innovative team for a Fixed Term, Sabbatical Leave cover (Full Time) position starting January 2025.
You will need to hold the FRACP, or an equivalent qualification, that would enable registration as a specialist medical oncologist by the Medical Council of New Zealand. In addition to your clinical, research, academic and administration duties, you will be participating in the after-hours on-call roster as well as covering clinical services in out-reach clinics. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team are essential.
