The patient mix is broad with a full range of trauma, medical and minor presentations. The population we serve is diverse with high levels of deprivation and many live in rural and remote communities. This adds to the acuity and complexity of our patient presentations but makes our work even more rewarding.You will have many opportunities to develop and grow your skills and scope of practice within the framework of a community and rural hospital based service.There is the opportunity to work in the emergency department, on our medical ward and fracture clinic.Te whiwhinga mahi| The OpportunityWe are a team of talented individuals working together to make a positive difference to the people we serve, the communities we work in and to each other.Deliver proficient preventive, therapeutic and diagnostic interventions effectively.Perform procedural skills, both diagnostic and therapeutic in a proficient manner.Seek appropriate consultation from health professionals based at our tertiary hospital within the boundary of your expertise.Develop rapport, trust and ethical therapeutic relationships with patients and families.Accurately extract and synthesise relevant information from patients, families and other professionals.Tokoroa hospital sees approximately 14,000 presentations a year through its emergency department and has a 17 bed inpatient ward. We have on-site plain film radiology and laboratory services available during the day and on call 24 hours, 7 days a week. We also have an up to date point of care ultrasound in the emergency department if you wish to use it or are keen to learn. We also manage and help with palliative care within the community to allow patients to be nearer to family. There are two primary care General Practices located on our site, and a third in Tokoroa town. Specialist clinics are provided by visiting specialists from tertiary provider Waikato hospital. There is a four bed primary birthing unit on site run by an employed charge midwife manager and midwives.
