We are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles by ensuring our partnership with Maori are at the forefront of all our conversations.Mo te tunga | About the roleThe Intensive Care Service includes:Intensive & High Dependency Care, providing tertiary trauma, neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, spinal care, and a large variety of general surgical and medical care as well as paediatrics.Deteriorating Patient Outreach Service, that supports wards across Christchurch Hospital Campus.Canterbury Air Retrieval Service, that supports the South Island Region.The Christchurch Hospital ICU has completed a migration to a new 36 bed, 3 ICU Pod facility.If you are looking to advance your specialist training or experience in Intensive Care Medicine, we are looking for Fellows/Medical Officers to join the ICU department on a fixed term contract for up to 2 years. This role is to start in July 2025.This position would suit applicants who have passed or are preparing to sit the Australasian College of Intensive Care Medicine Part II Examination and have completed a minimum of 18 months Intensive Care experience. It would also suit Emergency, Anaesthesia, Internal Medicine, or senior trainees from other specialties who are interested in gaining further experience in Intensive Care. The role is designed to comply with the transition year requirements stipulated by the CICM curriculum.You may progress to function as a junior specialist with graded responsibility and, depending on experience, increasing clinical autonomy. Duties will include the assessment and management of critically ill or injured patients and also assist with the supervision of medical and other staff. You will be directly accountable to the Clinical Director of the Department of Intensive Care.You will need to be eligible to gain registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
