Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL) is a busy diagnostic facility providing services to inpatients and outpatients at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury. Situated over the road from the beautiful Hagley Park South. You will be working for the largest medical laboratory in the South Island which is also a major secondary/tertiary referral centre with a varied and challenging caseload. CHL has an immediate catchment of circa 600,000 with wider provision to circa 1.2 million. CHL also provides a national and international service for selected tests.
Specialist Chemistry at CHL has a long-established expertise in development, analysis and clinical interpretation of routine and specialised assays. Conducting testing in a wide range of techniques including LC-MS/MS, ICPMS, HPLC, ELISA and electrophoresis.
This is a fixed term (12 months, preferred start date: 09/12/2024 till 05/12/2025) full-time (40 hours per week, Monday to Friday) maternity leave cover position, based in Specialist Chemistry.
We are looking for applicants with a qualification in biochemistry/biomedical science but will consider applicants from other specialties. Previous biochemistry experience would be an advantage, however full training will be provided.
You must be registered (or eligible for registration) with the New Zealand Medical Laboratory Sciences Council and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate (we can help you through the process if required).
The successful applicant will be a highly motivated team player with excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail. In addition, you will possess effective time management skills and be able to work independently.

This role requires the following:
A registered / provisionally registered Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) preferably with a current practicing certificate or qualifications that would allow/lead to registration as an MLS Or A registered /provisionally registered Medical Laboratory Technician ((MLT)
Familiarity with laboratory processes, quality management (compliance with ISO:15189) and experience in a similar role
Methodical and practical skills
Attention to detail and accuracy skills
Interpersonal and organisational skills
Data entry experience
Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, Outlook and Excel)
