About the role The NZBS Blood Bank based at Auckland Hospital is New Zealand's largest Blood Bank, testing between 200-250 samples per day. This is an exciting and fast-paced environment, often responding immediately in emergency situations for patients in need. What makes this role different from other Scientist roles is that at the end of the day, you know that you have been directly involved in someone's care. As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will be responsible for performing a range of duties related to pre-transfusion, antenatal, and diagnostic testing, as well as the issue of blood and blood products for clinical purposes. You will be joining a well-established team of Scientists and Technicians committed to quality service, high standards, and patient wellbeing. Your base salary will be between $69,000 and $104,466 depending on skills, experience, and registration. About you To be successful in this role, you must be registered as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Medical Sciences Council of NZ, or you will be seeking to complete your intern requirements before registration with NZMLSB. You will have a positive attitude, be committed to patient care, and have the flexibility to fully participate in our 24-hour, 7-day roster. The ability to multi-task, work collaboratively, and respond quickly in a fast-paced environment is essential in this role and key to your success as part of this high-performing team. We are looking for someone who has/is: Experience in transfusion science or a related discipline Experience working in a Blood Bank would be preferred, but not essential Flexibility to fully participate in our 24-hour, 7-day per week roster Effective interpersonal and communication skills Positive attitude Self-motivated Ability to take responsibility About New Zealand Blood and Organ Service New Zealand Blood and Organ Service (NZBS) is dedicated to saving lives.
