About the role | Mo te turanga: As the Medical Director of Anatomical Pathology, you will lead the provision of high-quality anatomical pathology services across the Awanui Laboratory Network. Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), you will work closely with clinical and operational teams to identify and address opportunities and challenges within the anatomical pathology network. This role combines leadership, strategic planning, and hands-on anatomical pathology duties.

Key Responsibilities: Provide leadership to the Anatomical Pathology team, representing their interests to the CMO, Operational Leadership Team (OLT), Clinical Leadership Group (CLG), and Board of Directors. Formulate and implement a strategic plan for anatomical pathology in collaboration with the operational team and lead anatomical pathologists. Mentor and guide anatomical pathologists, promoting best practices, career development, and succession planning. Ensure consistent implementation of network-wide policies, procedures, and standards across all anatomical pathology departments. Oversee clinical governance, quality improvement processes, and maintain high standards in anatomical pathology services. Provide medical advice on business development opportunities and clinical governance to support Awanui's strategic goals. Lead and coordinate responses to significant adverse events affecting patient outcomes, pathologist well-being, or the laboratory's reputation. Develop and extend Awanui's reputation with key stakeholders, including Health NZ, regional health administrators, and other laboratories. Assume the role of Acting CMO during extended leave periods, if requested. To succeed in this role, you will need | Kia angitu, me whai koe i: MBChB or equivalent, with specialist qualifications in Anatomical Pathology. Extensive experience in anatomical pathology, with significant leadership responsibilities. Experience managing and mentoring teams in a complex healthcare environment. Proven leadership experience in a senior role within a medical or laboratory setting. Ability to formulate and implement strategic plans and drive operational excellence. Strong ability to work with multidisciplinary teams, including clinical and operational teams. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex medical data to a range of stakeholders. Expertise in clinical governance, quality improvement, and risk management. Proven ability to engage with key stakeholders and enhance the department's reputation. Why Join Us?
