Mechanical Design Engineer with Project Management & Quotation Skills

Join the J J Niven Engineering team in Palmerston North. J J Niven Engineering is a privately owned engineering company based in Palmerston North. They are Contract and General Engineers, specialising in the design, build, and maintenance of:
Mechanical equipment
Pressure vessels
Gantry cranes
Material handling processes
Customer factory and plant improvements
Due to continued growth, they have an opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with Project Management and Quotation skills to join their collaborative team of Design, Project Engineers, and Fabrication workshop engineers. This is an interesting and varied role that involves time in the design office, workshop, and on job sites.
As a Mechanical Engineer within J J Niven Engineering, you will enjoy directly working with a diverse range of projects and end-users - both existing and new clients. Your responsibilities include:
Preparing quotations and design concepts
Undertaking design calculations
3D drafting in SolidWorks
Project management on and off-site
The preferred Mechanical Design Engineer candidate will be an intermediate to senior engineer, but graduates who can demonstrate a solid understanding of engineering first principles with relatable experience and strengths in design are also encouraged to apply.
The ideal applicant will have:
NZ Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with ideally at least 8 years post-graduate experience
Ability to attract work, marketing, and quotation experience with mechanical engineering projects
Experience with 3D modeling in SolidWorks & SolidWorks Simulation software
Proven mechanical design ability to complete manual calculations to Design codes, and project management experience
Experience with managing workshop based projects
Experience with Quality Assurance and H&S Management
A flexible and positive attitude and be a team player
Ability to multi-task while maintaining a high standard of professionalism
Ability to build relationships with clients, contractors, and consulting engineers
