Community Development (Community Services & Development)MATES in Construction is an evidence-based suicide awareness and prevention Programme for the Construction industry. Support is provided to the industry through education, support, training, and workforce capacity strengthening, building communities of mates who help mates.The MATES team is looking for Field Officers to join them on 12-month, fixed-term agreements (starting late Feb / early March 2025). These roles will be based in Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin.Field Officers work closely with individuals and/or worksites to engage, build rapport, and initiate conversations around mental health and wellbeing, and to identify and address concerns relating to mental health and/or suicide. This role is both rewarding and challenging, and you will have the opportunity to make a significant difference in workers' lives.Field Officers come from a wide range of backgrounds including areas such as construction, sports, armed services, and social services. You must be passionate about supporting the mental health of the construction industry, be confident engaging and presenting training sessions to small and large groups (full training on material provided), be a fast learner, and have good attention to detail.Other Responsibilities:Promoting the MATES in Construction Programme across the industryDelivering the MATES Programme on worksitesBuilding and supporting volunteer networks on siteTraining workers in suicide prevention, wellbeing, and supportEngaging with all parts of the MATES in Construction organisationAttending networking, fundraising, and partner eventsTo be Considered:A current full New Zealand driver's license is required.Ability to travel regularly (1-2 trips per month) within New Zealand.Highly developed communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, including the ability to liaise with workers and employers from the construction industry.Ability to deliver presentations and training to large groups of workers in a variety of circumstances and settings.Demonstrated ability to work independently, be organised and flexible within a team, manage workloads, set goals, and establish priorities to ensure deadlines and commitments are met.Reasonable administration and computer skills.Proven ability to build relationships in an effective and sensitive manner with employers and workers, particularly with those experiencing significant levels of distress.Awareness and understanding of the mental health challenges the construction industry is facing will be an advantage and comfort discussing these.To be considered, please click the apply button and attach your CV and cover letter addressing the key 'to be considered' points.Shortlisted applicants will need to be available for interviews on the following dates:Christchurch – 21 or 22 JanuaryAuckland – 29 or 30 JanuaryMust be available for a 2-day training course on the 4 & 5 FebruaryPlease note that due to the number of applications we receive, only successful candidates with relevant experience for the role will be contacted.
