We are seeking a teacher to take on the role of Master-in-Charge of our thriving boarding establishment. Coldstream Hostel has an illustrious history as Oldfield House – a grand house and former residence of Southland's first Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward.
Although Oldfield House no longer stands, tradition and values permeate the halls of the hostel. These are the foundational blocks that ensure that our boys are supported, encouraged, and nourished during their time at Southland Boys' High School.
Opened in 1954, Coldstream Hostel provides a supportive home environment for boarders, while encouraging independence, self-worth and tolerance. This fixed-term position would initially be working under the support and guidance of the Hostel Manager, Mrs Sue Mills. The successful candidate will be trained on how to operate a hostel ensuring that it maintains its reputation for being a warm, welcoming and well-resourced weekly home for 105 of our boys.
A stable and encouraging hostel environment – combined with the boarders' academic, sporting, and cultural activities – provides young men with a fulfilling and secure home away from home.
The successful applicant will teach 12 hours per week. Applicants are to state their area(s) of teaching and co-curricular expertise as part of their application.
