He angitutanga | About the role This is an exciting new role supporting an innovative partnership between Kai Tahu Papatipu Runaka and DOC to develop and support the operational delivery of new marine reserves in the southeast of the South Island. You will lead the planning, monitoring, and reporting of the work programme, working in close partnership with Kai Tahu. Your responsibilities will include development of the operational work programme including planning, scheduling, budget management and driving implementation to support the establishment of new marine reserves. This crucial role will establish operational Kaitiakitaka groups and the required processes and systems to successfully implement the new marine reserves. If you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you: Knowledge and experience with operational planning and implementation in a conservation context Proficiency in managing data, reporting, and using systems to track performance Strong critical thinking, analysis, and judgment, with the ability to translate strategic goals into operational plans Proven experience in project and budget management, ideally within a conservation or environmental setting Confidence and experience working in partnership with iwi and tangata whenua, with an understanding of the Maori Crown relationship Excellent collaboration and relationship management skills, able to engage with diverse groups and work productively within teams A valid driver's licence Ability to confidently deal with ambiguity, using your initiative and autonomy to help shape the role and new work within the district Familiarity with te reo and tikanga, or a willingness to develop this capability Understanding of marine protection planning or policy is desired, or a willingness to develop this knowledge. Mo te tima | About the team The Coastal Otago District Operations team, led by the Operations Manager, consists of 27 core staff, expanding in summer. Based in Otepoti, we work across Heritage, Biodiversity, and Community projects, fostering a positive culture of teamwork. Our work involves partnering with Kai Tahu papatipu runaka and collectively, engaging with the public and stakeholders. You will work closely with the wider DOC Whanui supporting marine protection including technical and compliance experts supporting the establishment of the new marine reserves.
