Deaf Aotearoa is a registered charity and the national service provider for Deaf people in New Zealand. We work closely with Deaf communities, government agencies and other organisations to increase awareness, promote New Zealand Sign Language and strengthen the rights of Deaf people.Deaf Aotearoa delivers key services to the Deaf community, providing them with knowledge, information, support, and resources. We advocate for equal access and participation for Deaf people in Aotearoa and aim to create opportunities so Deaf people can achieve their aspirations throughout their lives.Mo te tunga | About the roleDeaf Aotearoa's Maori Cultural Lead is responsible for building and nurturing key relationships, engaging with stakeholders, and identifying areas of need that will improve service delivery and outcomes for Turi Maori (Maori Deaf).You will bring to this position a strong understanding of Te Reo Maori, Te Ao Maori and Tikanga, to lead Deaf Aotearoa through their Maori cultural competency journey. You will oversee the creation of trilingual resources and advise on projects and events from the perspective of Turi Maori.You will be committed to Deaf Aotearoa's Vision and Mission, and have a willingness to learn about:The Deaf community, Deaf culture, and NZSL.Disability issues.Deaf Aotearoa values diversity. We are an equal opportunities employer, with Deaf-friendly work practices in place. As many of our staff our Deaf, we often use NZSL at work and staff are supported to develop their NZSL skills. We employ Deaf people at all levels and NZSL interpreters are available for meetings and training.This is a full-time, permanent position.
