The consents team is responsible for processing resource management applications in compliance with associated legislation including the RMA. This role is responsible for ensuring effective strategic leadership and development of the consenting team, implementing best practice solutions to improve our services, and ensuring Council meets its statutory timeframes and legal obligations.Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):Lead Council's resource management planning strategy, ensuring alignment with Council's strategic objectivesDevelopment of an engaged, empowered and high-performing teamProvide expert strategic advice on resource management mattersEnsure the effective financial management of resource management activitiesPresent evidence and recommendations at hearingsEffectively prioritise work (including the management of consultants) to ensure that consents are processed within statutory timeframesProcess complex resource consent applications and liaise and negotiate with applicants and submitters, mediate and conduct pre-hearing meetingsTo be successful in this role you will:Have an appropriate tertiary qualification in planning, resource management or environmental managementIdeally be a full member of NZPIProven people leadership and management skills, with a drive to develop and coach othersExperience in a local government environment within a resource management contextExcellent communication skills and proven ability to establish credible and constructive working relationshipsWell-developed conflict resolution skills with advanced skills in mediating and negotiatingWhat's in it for you?This is a newly created position and an opportunity to make the role your own.We recognise that staff are our most valuable asset.
