About the role

We are looking for an experienced manager, with proven expertise in resource management and planning. The consents team is responsible for processing resource management applications in compliance with associated legislation including the RMA. This role is responsible for ensuring effective strategic leadership and development of the consenting team, implementing best practice solutions to improve our services, and ensuring Council meets its statutory timeframes and legal obligations.
Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Lead Council's resource management planning strategy, ensuring alignment with Council's strategic objectives.
Development of an engaged, empowered and high-performing team.
Provide expert strategic advice on resource management matters.
Ensure the effective financial management of resource management activities.
Present evidence and recommendations at hearings.
Effectively prioritize work (including the management of consultants) to ensure that consents are processed within statutory timeframes.
Process complex resource consent applications and liaise and negotiate with applicants and submitters, mediate and conduct pre-hearing meetings.
To be successful in this role you will:
Have an appropriate tertiary qualification in planning, resource management or environmental management.
Ideally be a full member of NZPI.
Proven people leadership and management skills, with a drive to develop and coach others.
Experience in a local government environment within a resource management context.
Excellent communication skills and proven ability to establish credible and constructive working relationships.
Well-developed conflict resolution skills with advanced skills in mediating and negotiating.
