In this rewarding and challenging role, you will be responsible for leading two teams - one responsible for leading Pharmac's competitive procurement processes for medicines and medical devices to ensure optimum value for money is gained, and the other responsible for managing Pharmac's contracts and supply issues for funded medicines.
Broadly, the role is accountable for: Delivering the annual multi-product tender for medicines that, in general, provides $20-30 million in savings over three years.
Managing Pharmac's procurement processes for medicines, vaccines, and medical devices.
Managing all aspects of supply contracts Pharmac has entered into for medicines and vaccines.
Management of supply issues for medicines and vaccines.
Contributing to the planning, reporting, discussion, and decision-making of the Pharmaceuticals Directorate management team.
This is a real opportunity to be at the core of Pharmac's functions - influencing the practical intersect of evidence-based medicine, economics, and commerce and ensuring that New Zealanders have continued access to the treatments they need.

This is an internal and external facing role and requires excellent relationship management skills.
In particular, the ability to develop and foster strong relationships with pharmaceutical suppliers and sector partners will be key to ensuring success in this role.
The role has a level of autonomy and applicants will need to be self-driven to manage time-pressured work but also need to work as part of a team.
You will be supported to learn and succeed in our fast-paced and dynamic workplace.
To summarize, the ideal candidate would have the below skills and experience: Experience leading and managing technical experts.
Up-to-date understanding of the health sector and issues in the medicine and/or medical devices industry, with a strong commercial focus.
Strong negotiation, persuasion, and influencing skills, and the ability to resolve disputes.
Contract negotiation skills, risk management, and ability to understand legal considerations.
Procurement experience and skills.
Robust understanding of the nature of complex markets, able to conceptualize, model, and evaluate interactions between complex market factors to maximize value.
Relevant experience working in the health sector, or experience in science or economics.
Strong analytical skills, able to deal with complex financial data and clinical information.
Experience in managing logistics and supply chains, particularly in health-related fields, would be ideal.

This role is Band 10, with a total range of $152,223 - $205,949 total remuneration.
The appointment range is anticipated to be between $174,609 - $188,040 total remuneration, inclusive of 3% KiwiSaver Employer contribution.
The appointment salary is subject to the preferred candidate's relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
