We are seeking a talented IT Security Manager to lead the cybersecurity and network security functions, driving both the strategic and operational aspects of our cybersecurity infrastructure.
This role combines leadership, deep technical expertise, and hands-on responsibility for securing and managing all facets of cybersecurity and networking operations within the Ministry.
You will oversee the architecture, implementation, and operation of our network and security solutions, while ensuring compliance with the New Zealand Information Security Manual (NZISM).
You will also be responsible for managing budgets, overseeing vendor relationships, and driving key network and security projects.
Your focus will include developing and implementing policies, incident response management, and continuously improving our security posture in an evolving threat landscape.
Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage the Ministry's cybersecurity and network security operations.
Design, implement, and maintain cybersecurity architecture and solutions across 100 sites.
Oversee the operation and optimization of Fortigate Firewalls, Microsoft Defender suite, and Microsoft Sentinel.
Ensure compliance with the NZISM and all relevant legal, regulatory, and policy frameworks.
Develop and implement incident response strategies and risk management processes.
Manage cybersecurity and network security budgets, ensuring cost-effective solutions and spending alignment with strategic goals.
Oversee vendor management, including procurement, contracts, and performance reviews, to ensure successful service delivery.
Plan and execute cybersecurity projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
Work closely with the Director of Foundation Services and other stakeholders to shape cybersecurity strategy.
Lead, mentor, and develop the skills of the security operations team.
You are a seasoned cybersecurity and networking professional with at least 15 years of experience in both fields, coupled with a deep technical background.
You are comfortable navigating complex infrastructures, have hands-on experience with cybersecurity architecture, and are capable of making critical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
In addition to your technical skills, you are experienced in managing budgets, vendors, and large-scale projects.
Your leadership skills allow you to guide a team effectively while driving the organization's security initiatives.
Key Requirements: Minimum 15 years of experience in network and security roles.
Deep technical expertise in cybersecurity and network infrastructure.
Proficiency in managing Fortigate Firewalls, Microsoft Defender suite, and Microsoft Sentinel and other network and security technologies.
Proven experience in aligning cybersecurity strategies with NZISM requirements.
Strong knowledge of security architecture, risk management, and incident response.
Demonstrated experience managing budgets for IT security initiatives.
Proven track record in managing vendors, including procurement, contract negotiation, and service delivery oversight.
Experience leading complex projects, with a strong focus on delivery within scope, time, and budget.
Leadership experience in managing security teams and complex security operations.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
