Te Wero – The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Manager - Compliance to ensure all council activities adhere to laws, regulations, and policies. You will develop and maintain compliance programs that align with our mission and values.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance - Lead legislative compliance, oversee consent monitoring, provide advice, make prosecution decisions, adapt to legislative changes, and promote safety.
Planning - Contribute technical expertise to organizational plans and align departmental strategies.
Management Development - Develop leadership, coach and mentor staff, and ensure Health & Safety compliance.
Financial Management - Oversee budget and revenue generation.
Performance Management - Set performance expectations.
Business Acumen - Understand interdepartmental functions.
Other Duties - Recruit and develop staff, embed Council values, handle additional tasks, and commit to Health & Safety improvements.
We are looking for someone who has:
Professional Knowledge and Skills
Tertiary qualification in law, environmental science, compliance, resource management, investigation, or enforcement.
10+ years' experience with relevant statutes and regulations for Council Compliance functions.
In-depth knowledge of statutes like the Local Government Act, Food Act 2014, Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, Dog Control Act 1996, Resource Management Act 1996, and Reserves Act.
Familiarity with District Plan, bylaws, and policies.
Valid NZ Driver's Licence.
Experience in project and staff management, public communication, financial management, and report writing.
Proficiency in Pathways or similar systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

The salary for this position is Grade 22 within Council's salary structure (Band: $134,910 to $158,718 pro rata per annum) dependent on qualifications and experience, plus Kiwi Saver.
