About our team - Mo te tima
The Community Insights team is a multidisciplinary group with extensive expertise in research, evaluation, and data science. The team leverages these skills to measure and monitor the effectiveness of community initiatives, and provides insights to support better social outcomes for New Zealanders at the community level.
The team utilises quantitative and qualitative techniques, including Kaupapa Maori methods, to support community groups and initiatives. This involves working closely across MSD with our delivery and policy teams, and the community including iwi and partners.
About the role - Te ahuatunga a te turanga
As the Manager, you will lead this team of dedicated professionals to understand what is happening at a community level, how MSD and the wider government can respond, and the impact of any actions or decisions. You will also have strong political nous, and experience leading projects to address complex social challenges.
Your role will be to make the most of this expertise to support MSD leadership, operational and policy teams, Ministers, and the wider government with valuable evidence, insights, and information for better decision-making.
You will work closely with the wider Insights group, using collective strengths to share and present findings to our stakeholders and partners. This role requires excellent skills in managing stakeholders to ensure we are focused on the right priorities and apply the best mix of skills to support both operational and strategic decisions.
Skills and experience - Nga pukenga me nga wheako
A relevant tertiary qualification and significant experience in analytics, insights, research, evaluation, operational policy, or public sector commissioning.
Proven experience in leading change and managing complex projects, including guiding technical teams to deliver quality analysis and insights in a government context.
A successful track record of delivering clear, well-reasoned advice to decision-makers and stakeholders, and the ability to convey technical information to varied audiences.
Experience supporting teams to translate large datasets into insights that support decision-making for both operational and strategic needs.
Effective leadership skills, with the ability to inspire teams, manage performance, and adapt to changing environments while meeting deadlines and budgets.
Good understanding of policy development, parliamentary processes, and legislation, with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes.
