Mana Ake Kaimahi, School Development and Family Worker, 0.6FTE Stand Childrens Services Tu Maia Whanau Mana Ake - Stronger for Tomorrow provides mental health and wellbeing support for children in primary school years 1-8 across Canterbury.
Mana Ake kaimahi (workers) are employed by one of 12 NGO providers (of which Stand Tu Maia is one). They support schools, families and whanau when children are experiencing issues that impact their wellbeing such as managing emotions, friendships and bullying, parental separation and grief and loss.
Kaimahi have a diverse range of skills and include psychologists, social workers, counsellors, teachers and youth workers.
You will work with individual children and their caregivers. You will also work with groups of children to deliver social emotional education programmes. Mana Ake offers opportunities to deliver parent education programmes and to support schools with staff professional development.
You will work with a variety of cultures, including Maori and Pacifica. All Stand Tu Maia staff are expected to demonstrate a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
The ideal candidate will have:
A talent for connecting with and empowering groups and communities, from tamariki to whanau and teachers.
Team spirit that thrives on collaboration across a cluster of schools.
Professional registration in fields like Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Counselling, Allied Health, or Teaching.
Competency in IT, databases and case management systems.
Confidence to shine both independently and as a part of a diverse team.
