Job Description Are you looking for a way to volunteer with St John, but frontline ambulance work isn't for you? Here's an opportunity that allows you to provide support to our Ambulance Officers and your community at the same time!
The Major Incident Support Team (MIST) has the important task of ensuring that Hato Hone St John is providing a world-leading response to major incidents and large events. The Major Incident Support team is looking for non-clinical people throughout New Zealand to deploy and assist the Ambulance Operations and Event Health Services teams. As a MIST member, your role will be to provide support at planned and unplanned events in times of crisis and high workload. This can include major sporting events, festivals, and concerts through to incidents and natural disasters.
There are 4 major areas where you can be involved (but may not be required at each event):
Administration - Tracking patients, staff and vehicles - making sure all the paperwork is done.
Communications - Specialist communications within a Command Unit at an incident and between the incident and an Emergency Operations Centre or Ambulance Communications Centre.
Welfare - Looking after Staff that are working - keeping them fed, watered and mentally well.
Logistics - Moving and setting up infrastructure. This can also include moving vehicles, driving between sites, setting up tents.
Some of your key tasks may include (but are not limited to) the following:
Ensuring all operations vehicles and equipment and Major Incident equipment are maintained to a state of operational readiness.
Responding to major incidents and filling the CIMS 'Logistics' & 'Welfare' roles.
Provide communications and logistical support at significant events.

Our ideal candidates have:
A current, clean full NZ Driver's Licence class 1 required, with the ability to drive both automatic and manual vehicles confidently.
A First Aid certificate.
An ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
Strong communication skills and a high level of attention to detail.
Flexibility, resilience, and the ability to maintain performance under pressure.
Physical fitness.
