New Zealand Starch Ltd. produces a range of maize-derived food, stock food, and industrial products at its Onehunga process plant. The site operates around the clock to meet the high demand for our quality products. Role Purpose: The Maintenance Fitter reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for fault finding, proactively repairing machinery and preventative maintenance. This enables the production team to produce high-quality products. The standard work hours will be within a set time frame, with exact start and finish times determined based on operational needs—Monday to Friday with 6 hours on Saturday morning. Key Responsibilities: Provide quality maintenance fitter services to maintain and repair a range of process equipment and machineryCarry out preventative maintenance duties and checks as prescribed in MEX work orders issued to youReport back on work undertaken and conditions found as requiredIdentify any parts needed and communicate the usage of parts to the appropriate personUndertake project and improvement tasks as requestedSupport production and site activities to optimize productivity and minimize downtimeEnsure execution of planned maintenance works aligns with plant and resource availabilityTimely responses to all breakdown calls, using fault-finding skills to evaluate the cause of the breakdown and implement the best solution to rectify the breakdownEnsure all tasks are conducted safely, and that no hazards are left untendedSupervise external contractors when on-siteEnsure compliance with site quality and food safety programsTo be successful you will have the following: Knowledge of business operations including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs)Understanding of food manufacturing processes and hygiene requirementsUnderstanding of safety systems and processes including risk assessments, incident reporting, and planned inspectionsFitter, Fitter – Turner, Fitter - welder, or Fitter/Machinist experience is desirableWelding experience is desirable while knowing pumps and bearingsStrong attention to detail with a proactive approach to maintenance issuesPlanning, organisation, and problem-solving skillsReliable, motivated, punctual, and can work autonomouslyHave a strong work ethic and be a team playerBe physically fit and healthy for workIf you seek a new and challenging career with a long-established New Zealand organisation, please submit your CV and cover letter through Seek.
