Our success hinges on having an exceptional team across every area of our business, and now we have an exciting opportunity for a Livestock Advisor to join our team based in Christchurch.About the roleWe are seeking an experienced Livestock Advisor to join our team in the Christchurch region.
This position operates as a crucial part of the local Agriculture team in a dynamic, ever-changing environment.The Livestock Advisor is responsible for supporting our Broiler chicken farmers to rear birds in accordance with Tegel's high performance and welfare standards, to meet targets across the supply chain.This involves routine monitoring of hygiene and environmental management and providing technical support on all aspects of animal husbandry, welfare, and biosecurity.
The main objectives are to optimise flock health and drive continuous improvement in flock performance, while meeting company, regulatory and customer requirements.A day in the life of Livestock AdvisorVisiting farms daily to provide hands-on husbandry advice and identify opportunities for performance improvement.
You will ensure company policies, regulatory standards and customer requirements are met, by confirming animal welfare and biosecurity best practices are followed.You will liaise with other Agriculture departments to find solutions to issues or opportunities for improvement, participate in trials, lead, or assist with projects and monitor and report on KPI's and other metrics as required.You may provide relief management for company-operated farms as needed, including overseeing daily operations, and ensuring alarm system coverage.What will you bring?Minimum 2 years industry experience (ideally poultry farm servicing or management) or relevant tertiary qualification.A genuine interest in animal welfare, biosecurity, and performance within the poultry industry.Excellent communication and leadership skills; balance of assertiveness and diplomacy.Ability to constructively influence, build relationships and problem solve.A proactive, detail-oriented, reliable person with the ability to prioritise duties and willingness to learn.Ability to work autonomously or in a team environment.Able to thrive in a dynamic environment.Flexibility to work hours to suit work demands.What is in it for you?Company VehicleMedical Insurance + Life InsuranceStaff sales - discounted productsWe're reviewing applications as they come in, so don't wait to make your move — come take a seat at our table and help shape the future at Tegel.Please note: Due to our strict biosecurity requirements, candidates must not have any birds (including poultry) or pigs at your place of residence or live with someone who works in other poultry or pig operations.
