SUMMARY The purpose of the trainer/assessor role is to deliver engaging and practical training and assessment programmes that improve worker performance by enabling the competence to carry out their work to a high standard and to do it safely. The role requires development and updating of training and assessment materials incorporating best practice techniques. Participation in quality improvement processes including self-assessment, formal evaluation and moderation are an important aspect of the role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with individuals and/or organisations to develop and provide engaging, relevant, practical training and assessment programmes across infrastructure industries. Provide work type competency (WTC) and industry Health and Safety related training. Coach and mentor candidates to successfully complete all on-job requirements. Effectively identify and deliver to the varying level of support needed by candidates. Establish customer needs for training and assessment and think outside the box to solve customer training problems. Develop and update course training material and training activities. Develop and update assessment activities and carry out post-course and workplace assessment within identified deadlines. Carry out internal moderation of assessment. Assess the effectiveness of own training design and delivery. Stay up to date with industry practice, rules, and standards. Liaise with relevant organisations, industry, and professional bodies, as required and participate in industry working groups to improve industry training outcomes. Keep training and assessment information up to date for each candidate in the LMS. Work well within the Avetta team and its priority behaviours to maintain a high level of quality and ensure continued business success. Other functions as determined by business requirements. MINIMUM SKILLSET: Proficient skills in Microsoft products – Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Word and Excel. At least three years' industry work experience in either the Telecommunications, Electricity Supply, or Infrastructure Industry. Desire and commitment to continually upskill and improve. Patience and flexibility in teaching methods, and ability to coordinate people at different stages of learning. Punctual, organised, able to plan and be flexible. Curious, proactive and always looking for continuous improvement opportunities. Self-motivated, positive, and outgoing. Good problem solving and decision-making skills. Ability to communicate clearly and relate well to people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds. Able to work well in an open environment with other team members. Physical Requirements: A good standard of physical health and fitness is required for this role. A tidy and professional standard of dress is required. METRICS THAT MATTER: Always demonstrates safe working practices. Develops fit for purpose training and assessment programmes. Demonstrates effective and engaging facilitation skills and consistently receives positive feedback from evaluations. Programmes are completed successfully, and qualifications awarded on time and within budget. Compliance with the Avetta Quality Management System, standard setting body requirements and NZQA requirements. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: An Electrical Registration AND/OR other recognised relevant technical qualification e.g., Electrical Trade Certificate, NZ Certificate in Electricity (Distribution)/Engineering and/or Telecommunications. A full clean driver's licence. Assessor or Adult Education Qualification. Experience with supervising/mentoring staff is desirable. Experience in a training role is preferred. Understanding of relevant industries including NZ Electricity Supply, Telecommunications or Infrastructure. Clear understanding of current statutes and codes of practice governing work in relevant sectors. Knowledge of the NZQA framework.
