Library Services & Information Management (Education & Training)
Villa Maria College seeks a Library Assistant to provide excellent customer service and support. This is a permanent role commencing 28 January 2025. The role is term time only, Tuesday to Friday 10am-2pm.
You will be employed under the Support Staff collective.
Responsibilities and Duties
Customers:
The counter is attended, and book issuing handled in a friendly, welcoming way.
Large numbers of students using the library are looked after in a friendly and calm manner.
Individual students are helped to learn research skills to find what they need both in the physical library and online.
Familiarity with EPIC and other research websites is required.
Ability to help students find fiction books they would like to read.
Health and Safety issues pertaining to the location of all students will be covered.
Ensure casual study students sign-in as they arrive and leave.
Rolls for assigned study classes are completed on Kamar each period as required, and clear communication with student office and staff maintained as necessary.
Participate and help with any events run at the library as required, such as book week.
Students are helped to download the eBook app and shown how to use eBooks and audiobooks.
Oversee Student Librarians (in conjunction with the library manager)
Student librarians are trained in their duties and supervised.
The library manager and student head librarian are assisted at librarian meetings as needed.
Process:
Timely cataloguing and processing (labeling and covering) of books.
Familiarity and competence with library software (Access-it with SCIS).
Returns are processed and shelved in a timely manner in conjunction with student librarians.
Mending is completed as required.
The shelves are tidy and displays maintained in conjunction with student librarians.
Laptops are issued and returned correctly and overdues followed up as required.
The library is kept tidy, the classrooms checked and kept tidy, rubbish and lost property dealt with appropriately.
Cover breaks of library manager.
