About this job...
We are looking for a Legal Counsel who will work closely with the General Counsel to execute the DB Legal strategy, supporting DB to achieve its business goals. This role has a broad range of responsibilities across all departments in our business, from assisting with contract reviews, property transactions, competition law, IP protection and supporting our marketing team to create compliant, innovative campaigns through to partnering with internal stakeholders (both local and global) to deliver major projects and running training sessions. Because of this, you will be an expert in building connections and becoming a trusted business partner, whilst a proactive approach will be the key to your success. The DB Legal team also supports Heineken's Australian OpCo - Drinkworks - and Star Hospitality Group, the largest hospitality company in New Zealand.
You will deliver the goods by:
Drafting and advising on contractual agreements and supporting the procurement, sales, marketing and sponsorship teams to negotiate contracts;
Assisting with managing commercial lease arrangements;
Bringing an understanding of company secretarial, governance and risk processes;
Working independently, with great commercial acumen to understand when to deal with a problem immediately and when to escalate to the General Counsel;
Championing Heineken's Code of Business Conduct (including conflicts of interest, anti-bribery sanctions, data privacy and Heineken's Responsible Marketing Code);
Building strong relationships with stakeholders – demonstrating advanced written and verbal communication skills;
Being ready to embrace technology to use within the legal function and the wider business;
Assisting the General Counsel with the management of commercial disputes, litigation and ad-hoc legal matters from time to time;
Bringing great energy to work with some exciting brands and have fun whilst doing it!
About you…
Current NZ Practicing Certificate with 2-6 years of legal experience in either private practice or as an in-house counsel (or a combination of both);
General commercial expertise, with a specialty in either intellectual property, commercial property/leasing, competition law or food law;
Understanding of the Fair Trading Act and Commerce Act;
Having strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build and manage working relationships with our people, at all sites and levels throughout the business;
Having a pragmatic, solutions-focused mindset with a high level of attention to detail.
Sound like the role for you? We're a supportive team with a positive culture so if you want to add to that, apply today! We look forward to meeting you.
