The growth pressures that the district is experiencing have led to the 2024 - 2034 Ten-Year plan confirming an ambitious programme of work, with over $2.4 billion of capital investment to be made over the next decade. Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) provides high-quality services and infrastructure to residents and visitors, managing the district's parks, trails, libraries, and recreational facilities, enabling sustainable development through consenting services and regulating local activities. The legal team is involved in a broad range of exciting legal work to drive outcomes for Council and delivers significant impact in terms of the volume and complexity of legal work.
The role:
The focus of the Junior Legal / Legal Counsel role will be to work with the Senior Legal Counsel to provide timely, high quality and fit for purpose legal services to the organization with a focus on the following subject matter areas:
Civil disputes and litigationRegulatory enforcement and prosecutionsResource management mattersLocal government – applicable legislation and functionsProperty and reservesCommercial negotiations and disputesCommercial contracting and procurementLGOIMA and Privacy ComplianceCCTO/CCO mattersThe Junior Legal / Legal Counsel will work closely with the wider legal team who provide a single service delivery unit and will therefore have the opportunity to take on legal work across a broad range of subject areas.
This role is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic, adaptable and open to work across a range of legal areas.
About you: Tertiary bachelor qualification in law and holds a current New Zealand practising certificate.1-5 years' PQE in the areas of local government, public, commercial, litigation and/or resource management law.Eagerness to learn new skills and apply existing skills to any problem & good experience with legal documentation.Able to demonstrate the ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines.Should be able to relocate to beautiful Queenstown.Benefits:
