Legal Advisor/Deputy Registrar | Wellington CityThe Waitangi Tribunal is a permanent commission of inquiry charged with making recommendations on claims brought by Maori relating to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
It holds a unique place in the New Zealand constitutional framework.
Te Haeata/The Opportunity The Legal Advisor / Deputy Registrar is responsible for supporting the technical legal leadership of the unit to ensure that claimants to the Waitangi Tribunal can have their claims registered and considered appropriately.
Working across the Unit, and supporting the Registrar, the Deputy Registrar will assist in providing legal expertise and advice to staff regarding the registration and handling of claims.
To be successful in the role you will have:
A Bachelor of Law degree and eligible to hold a practicing certificate is a minimum requirement.Well-developed negotiation, organisational and planning skillsA solid understanding of Tribunal jurisprudenceAn ability to establish and maintain a range of effective internal and external stakeholder relationships and networksAn ability to read, understand and interpret complex documents and data, including legislation, statistics, research and analytical reports, scholarly publications, and legal documentsExperience working with judiciary and a commitment to further develop your knowledge in Te Reo and Tikanga Maori will be an advantage.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $83,562 and $116,273 based on skills and experience.
