The Department of Maori/Indigenous Health Innovation (MIHI) undertakes research, teaching and community service in response to supporting Maori health advancement. We are seeking a Pukenga/Pukenga Matua (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer) to join our whanau.
We are committed to working closely with iwi and Maori organisations, and matauraka Maori has become an integral part of teaching and research across the institution. We especially value our relationship with Ngai Tahu, the mana whenua within their taki wa of Te Waipounamu, and the University's principal Treaty partner.
Te mahi/The role
The Pukenga/Pukenga Matua (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer) role is an academic position which will make a significant contribution to teaching and delivery of the Hauora Maori component of the MB ChB programme in years 4 to 6 of the Advanced Learning in Medicine (ALM) programme at the University of Otago, Christchurch (UOC), the postgraduate professional health programmes and other education activities at MIHI.
The successful candidate for this position will also contribute to scholarship and professional activities and will contribute to research relevant to Maori Health Advancement.
They will also contribute to university planning and/or governance and serve the relevant profession and/or academic discipline and contribute to the wider community.
The position is based in Otautahi/Christchurch, it is expected that academic staff will be routinely at work on campus, so they are available to assist students and for students to see the University as a place of active scholarship.
Ka pukeka me ka wheako/Your skills and experience
The successful candidate will be expected to have the following:

A clinical specialty qualification and current annual practicing certificate
Preferably prior experience with undergraduate medical and nursing education, ideally in clinical skills and simulation-based education
Experience of working with Maori communities and advanced understanding of Hauora Maori
An aptitude and enthusiasm for health professional education and for working in an academic team
Ability to work well with students and staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds and at all levels of the institution
Ability to work independently and with initiative as well as under delegation and direction
Ability to lead and work within teams
Reliability and commitment to high standards of practice.
Good organisational skills
Commitment to te reo and tikaka Maori and the articles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and to equal opportunity
Commitment to upholding values, tikanga, kawa and traditions as guided by Ngai Tahu, as mana whenua in the region and broad knowledge of the cultural traditions of other iwi/hapu
